Lorient put in an impressive performance to beat Rennes 2–1 in the Ligue 1 2022/23 and return to winning ways. Rennes were able to pull one back through Flavian Tait in the 72nd minute, but Lorient held on to take all three points. Lorient were the better side throughout and were full value for the win. They did not dominate possession but managed to frustrate Rennes‘ attack on the counter. The win puts Lorient in sixth place with 35 points, just one spot behind Rennes, who are now in fifth with 37 points.
