Paris Saint-Germain wrestled the title back last season and opened as heavy Ligue 1 odds favourites ahead of the 2022-23 season. And now half way through the season the story pretty much remains the same!
The 2022-23 Ligue 1 season will conclude on Sunday, June 4, 2023 as 20 football clubs will look to capture the premier football league in France.
And not to forget Paris Saint-Germain are the defending Ligue 1 champion!
The reigning French champions, Lille, finished the previous campaign in 10th place and 31 points off the lead, making their title defence essentially non-existent.
As such, it represented a return to normal for the French league, with Paris Saint-Germain being the overwhelming Ligue 1 odds favourite throughout the entire season until winning the championship.
The 2021–22 championship was PSG’s eighth in the previous ten years, and a mid-way assessment of the odds for Ligue 1 in 2022–23 suggests the French powerhouse will win consecutive championships!
But it’s important to know that due to player moves and injuries, Ligue 1 future odds are constantly changed throughout the season.
As the season progresses and teams win and lose games, as well as more players are injured or suspended, the title odds will change.
Additionally, sportsbooks will modify Ligue 1 odds in accordance with handle and liability to specific teams!
With that done with… let’s get talking on who is likely to win the Ligue 1 this time around!
As mentioned before, PSG are the favourites to win here but when are they ever not?
They have the best 3 attacking players in the league and possibly the World playing for them. And in recent times winning the Ligue 1 has been just about a formality for them!
Their odds of winning yet again stands @ 1.03!
Which is quite incredible given that 1.00 means a 100 percent probability of winning the league!
But that’s PSG being PSG! Lens on the other hand have been the surprise package this season!
At the time of writing (January 3), they are just 4 points behind the club from Paris.
Only Monaco and Lille have been able to disrupt PSG in the last 10 years. The odds that Lens can join that list in an otherwise one team league stands @ 19.46. Which also makes them the 2nd favourite.
Marseille, Rivals of PSG finished second last season, but they were 15 points behind the winners. Even though midfielder Boubacar Kamara, a key member of Marseille’s squad, has already left, they will carry on as long as Dimitri Payet does.
Marseille will once again be led by the winger, who scored 22 goals and added eight assists last season, as they try to compete with the Ligue 1 heavyweights.
They are 3rd on the table with 36 points and they are also the third favourites to win the league with odds @ 41.00.
Following Marseille, Rennes are fourth on this list with odds @ 71.50. they are 4th on the table just two points behind Marseille and 10 points behind league leaders PSG!
The winner from the 2016/17 Monaco, find themselves far from winning the league with market odds @ 97.71.
And rightly so because they are 11 points off the top of the table!
Despite finishing eighth the year before, Lyon were the second favourite to win the league at the start of the season. But now they find themselves far from those early odds as their current market odds are @ 167.78.
PSG winning the league is the safest bet that one can make and this season is no different. But perhaps Lens can cause a huge upset as they only find themselves 4 points behind the club from Paris!
